You will find lots of historical sites some of which can be traced back over 2500 years to the founding of Suzhou. The Tiger Hill has been known as No. 1 Sight of Suzhou. It is a must for tourists. The great Song literary man Su Dongpo said, "It would be a pity if you had been to Suzhou but didn't get to visit the Tiger Hill." Then visit Shantang Street, it also called Seven-mile Shantang, is located in the northwest of Suzhou, and the total length of it is about seven li (3.5 kilometers). Shantang Street in Suzhou attracts many tourists from home and abroad. Most of them prefer traveling along the canal, enjoying beautiful scenery. Owing to its distinguished geographic location and convenient water and land transportation, Shantang Street was one of the streets which trade and culture were most highly developed in Ming and Qing dynasties, regarded as “the No.1 Ancient Street in China”. The renovated Shantang Street becomes the place which shows the essence of natural views and human landscapes of Suzhou, which is rated as “the miniature of old Suzhou and the window of Wu culture”. There is a folk song, singing “There is a paradise in heaven, but there are Suzhou and Hangzhou on the earth. Hangzhou has the West Lake while Suzhou has Shantang. Both are good places with boundless sceneries”, which is the vivid image of Shantang.
Suzhou Museum. It has been a highly-regarded regional museum with a number of significant Chinese cultural relics. The new Suzhou museum designed by world famous architect I.M.Pei with the area of over 10,700 square metres. Not only does the museum become a monumental design building in Suzhou, but also a significant construction, merging the traditional Chinese architectural design with the future.

Taking bullet train ( G trains) from Shanghai to Suzhou is the most comfortable and convenient way, G train is the fastes among trains, it takes around 25-30 minutes from Shanghai train station to Suzhou train station and costs around CNY40. You can take taxi/subway from airport to Shanghai train station first and take train to Suzhou.
Some options listed as below for your reference:
1). Take Shanghai Pudong Airport Suttle Bus to Suzhou, it costs CNY 84 and takes around 2.5 hours for one way.
2). Take subway directly to Shanghai Hongqiao station and take bullet train to Suzhou
3). Take taxi to Shanghai train station or Shanghai Hongqiao station (Shanghai station is closer) and take bullet train to Suzhou
4). Take taxi to Suzhou directly. it takes around 2.5 hours and costs around CNY500 for one way
ps:
1. Subway starts around 6am every day.
2. Shanghai Pudong Airport Shuttle Bus starts at 10am and ends 19:50pm, almost 30minutes one shuttle bus. It costs CNY84
3. If you want to be in Suzhou as early as possible, it seems taking taxi is better for you.

My husband and I will be disembarking from our cruise (Celebrity Millennium) at Shanghai on Sep 25. We are from HK and my husband is Shanghainese, and we have been to Shanghai many times. This time, we want to visit Suzhou for a day, see the gardens and canals, also visit the Suzhou Museum.
We will be flying back to HK from Pudong Airport around 6pm on Sep 26. We can either spend the night of Sep 25 in Pudong or Suzhou, but taking our luggage with us to Suzhou would be a problem. So we plan to stay in Shanghai near the Pudong Airport after getting off the cruise. We can then take an early morning train from Shanghai Railway station to Suzhou on Sep 26, but we have to be back to Pudong before 5pm to take or flight back to HK.
We probably only have 5-6 hours in Suzhou on wednesday, Sep 26. Please let us know if this is feasible and how much it costs for a private tour. We do not mind joining other
people with similar interests.
